Westinghouse 64292 15-Inch Three-Light Flush Mount Fixture, Oil Rubbed Bronze with Frosted White Alabaster Globe Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I was given a pair of these as gifts from my wish list. The dark part of the light is matte, almost black, uniform in color. The glass is swirled, white on white. It is more of a white than a cream color, allowing a very white light.
Installation was a breeze, with plenty of wire length to attach to wires from the outlet box. In addition to the lamp itself (finial, shade, base, etc.) the materials provided for installation are:
A: three wire connectors, for the black, white, and ground wires,
B: a new mounting bar,
C: mounting screws, to attach the base to the mounting bar
D: a grounding screw
Not included:
A: an outlet box--not standard for any fixtures, but I list it anyway.
B: the two outlet box screws, that hold the mounting bar to the outlet box. This is also not standard material included with a light fixture, but you may need to buy some if your old screws are stripped.
C: extras of anything. I didn't have a problem with this, but there are no "Oh crap, the dog just ate one of the wire connectors" extras.
My only difficulty with installation was because of a good thing--the insulation was so thick that it was hard to feed the mounting screws through it. I was okay with that, because with 3 60-watt bulbs a light fixture gets pretty hot--and this light has no gap for heat to escape between the base (which they call the canopy) and the shade--so you want some good insulation.
The shade was a nice weight glass--it doesn't feel like it will shatter if you bump it with a broom handle while dusting. The metal canopy was a very lightweight material--very thin--but that didn't seem to be a problem--since the whole thing is held flush to the ceiling, there's really not a chance for the thin metal to bend or warp. The finial has a washer, a hex nut, and a cap between it and the glass shade, lessening the chance that the glass will chip around the hole.
The shade is removed by unscrewing the finial at the bottom, so it's easy to reach, unlike some fixtures where there are three or four screws around the canopy--so changing light bulbs is a little more in reach. The only difficulty is that juggling the washer, hex nut, cap, and finial, the shade, and a lightbulb can be difficult--so changing the light bulb means more than one trip up and down the ladder/chair/whatever.
Hope this is helpful--enjoy the lamp!
