You have the choice of the fan spinning or you can have it blowing stationary. The light works well and I highly recommend the remote control. That way you can dim the light as you please and change fans speed or direction or placement. Absolutely marvelous! I'm so glad I bought it - saw it on an HGTV makeover show and just bought it because of the appearance, but the function makes it the best fan I've ever owned.
