I purchased 3 of these: one for myself because I love scent throughout my home but fear real candles when I can't be in the room all the time. I have replaced all my real candles with flameless candles from a very reputable company, but I wanted something a bit more 'fun', especially for the bathroom.
If you're looking for a cute, rather different, night light with a dimmer switch, this is the one for you but be prepared for it to wobble and tip. The electrical cord comes from the direct center of the base, just like any table lamp. The hexagonal-shaped nut/bolt that holds that cord mechanism in place by tightening around the threads is longer than the feet of the unit. As a result, the thing never actually sits evenly on the table surface. It either wobbles constantly as one moves around the room and 'shakes' the unit on the furniture, or it tilts to one side. Either way, the oil spills and makes a mess unless you use only a few drops. That being said, whether it is a few drops of oil or 1/2 a bottle, the thing just doesn't warm the oil enough to dissipate it into the air. I tried getting this thing to work for 3 days because I wanted it to work so badly. I tried lots of oil. I tried a little oil. I tried what another reviewer mentioned and added a bit of water to the oil. I turned the light on HIGH. I turned the light on low. I finally got disgusted with the entire thing and emptied the oil and then placed the 'bowl' that holds the oil in the sink so I could hand wash it. Now that was a joke. Where the oil had dripped and dribbled down the back side of this glass bowl, the color had disappeared in a perfect drip line from the oil. When I began washing it with warm soap and water, the color on the bottom of the 'bowl' came right off on my sponge.
Not only is this one going back, the other two I got with it to give as gifts are going back with it.
I had thought of keeping one as a cutesy night light in the bathroom and foregoing getting any kind of scent from it, but if I can't wash the top bowl, what's the point?
Save your money and your sanity. Now I have the wonderful job of packaging it all back up along with the 6-pack of oils I purchased separately (it does not come with a bottle of starter oil) and getting it back to the post office to wait for my refund. Major disappointment and aggravation.
