I actually was concerned about a modern fan in with tradional furniture but it really looks nice in with everything. One thing that I did notice is that if you do not turn off the power from the wall switch instead of the hand held remote, I find that the light will all of a sudden turn on by itself. All in all, if you want a different look you will be very pleased with this. I bought the Oil Rubbed Bronze Finish because all of our fixtures are the same finish in the house. The Electrician that installed the fan really raved about the fan and mentioned to his wife that he wanted to put one in his office.

(More customer reviews)I purchased these fans as I'm 6'2", ceilings are 8' and they seemed to be the fans with the blades closest to the ceiling so I don't lose a hand while I'm getting dressed in the morning. We purchased 4 of these fans, as well as another model from Minka Aire. Compared to the other model of Minka Aire (purchased from Restoration Hardware), these are much easier to install. They have not wobbled, move air nicely. They light is perhaps not the most attractive, but it lights the room well. The base of these fans are larger than other fans, and may appear bulkier towards the ceiling.
However, it is a bit more complex than a screwdriver and electrical tape to install, as another reviewer mentioned. The ceiling fan has to be secured to the ceiling in an appropriate fashion, either attached directly to a ceiling joist, or through brace b/n the ceiling joists. (westinghouse Saf-T Brace). The person installing it has to have a knowledge of how to attach wires.
After I installed all 5 fans, I noticed that each remote control operated every fan in the house. There was instructions in the manual to avoid remote control interference, but this did not work. I did call the support, who were helpful, but did mention that the instructions in the fans to avoid interference was not clearly written in the manual. How to fix the problem is as follows:
1. turn off the power on the electrical box
2. disconnect the black and white electrical connections on all fans except one
3. turn on the power
4. remove the back piece from the remote control (easily removed) and find ZONE and NUMBER
5. change one combination
6. hold the "stop" button on the remote control for 10 seconds, or until the ceiling fan light will blink twice
7. Now disconnect this ceiling fan's electrical connections, move to the next ceiling fan and repeat the process

(More customer reviews)I have 3 of these fans. The best ceiling fan I ever used! Easy to install. But, some points for you. It can't be on a dimmer switch, it has its own remote with dimmer. The reverse direction will not work if the wall on / off switch is a dimmer.
Yes the blades are plastic, but you can't tell. This style fan goes with mod / contemporary and antique rooms.

(More customer reviews)We bought two of these for rooms with low ceilings (less than 8'). The bottom of the motor is only about 6 1/2" below the ceiling when installed. The installation was easy and the manufacturer was kind enough to include a few extra screws and washers just in case. The fans are very quiet and will provide good air circulation in rooms about 12 x 12. Light fixtures are available, but we haven't tried one yet.

(More customer reviews)Really nice fans...they were 3 years old (manufacture date) when I got them in Nov 2010. Listed as "each blade hand carved" (could be but the blades are balsa wood or perhaps the wicker insert). The motor is gigantic and the blades ARE perfectly balanced. I only paid $70 for each one (bought two) for installation in an 1890 Victorian. Have two bedrooms that are 25 x 20, so they move the air really well even on the lowest speed. The fan is intended for large rooms and the manufacturer states that in the installation instructions. May be the quietest fan I ever installed...and have installed dozens. A great buy at the price and fit my needs perfectly. Would have given 5 star if they were energy-efficient but if that is not a concern then they are 5 star.

Minka-Aire Fans F603-ORB 54" Como Contemporary Oil-Rubbed Bronze Ceiling Fan w/ Light & Wall Ctrl Review

(More customer reviews)We installed this fan about two months ago. It was fine but occasionally we would smell a fishy odor in the room. It took us a while to figure it out but the smell was caused by the light bulbs burning a flat, white metal/composite(?) plate that was above the light bulbs. There is some foil-backed insulation between the bulbs and the plate but it was charred as well. The smell only occurred when the light was also in use. I talked with Minka but their response was not unacceptable. The person said that although the history of this fixture did show such problems, it was not a safety hazard and had not caused fires(!). I offered to send a photo of the browned plate but he said it wouldn't make a difference in their response. They apparently think that it is perfectly OK and pleasant to smell a fishy odor when the fixture is in use and, much worse, they are willing to take a chance with the safety of their customers. So, we will have to spend money for the electrician to come remove it so we can return it to the store and then pay again to have a new fan installed. Thanks Minka.

I have read the other reviews about the fan making noise, so I was a bit skeptical about buying it, but I bought it anyways. Boy I am glad I did! This is a really good looking ceiling fan. Gives the room a classy, but not too flashy look. Every person who has come to the house after I installed this has complimented on it. As far as noise, I experienced none. Just make sure when you put the blades together with the arms, make certain that the screws are good and tight. I used a cordless DeWalt drill with the torque setting set low to #12 to assure a good tight fit. I actually was so impressed with the looks and operation of this fan that I immeadiately went back to amazon.com and bought another fan exactly like this one, for my kitchen. Same review - absolutely no problems, none whatsoever. Shipping was very fast with the free super saver shipping, I got it in about 3 days after ordering. Wal-Mart offers this same exact fan, but it is priced about $20 higher.
ONE THING I WILL STRESS: Absolutely DO NOT and I mean, DO NOT waste your time buying the cheap candelabra candle tip bulbs - It seems to me that it burns through a lot of them. Go to Lowe's or Home Depot (or even here at Amazon.com) and buy the CFL (Compact Flourescent Light Bulbs) Candelabra base bulbs. I've had the CFL bulbs in there for almost two months in the living room fan and they are yet to burn out. But I have the regular ones in the kitchen and have had all three burn out once already. So, pay the extra money and get the CFL bulbs. They will last longer and you'll save money in the long run.... 13 Watt CFL = 60 Watt Incandescent. Also keep in mind that CFL bulbs can be purchased in different color temperatures to give you the light effect you want. So pay attention to that. Hope this review helped you out.

Minka-Aire Fans F517-ORB 52" Concept I Contemporary Oil-Rubbed Bronze Ceiling Fan w/ Light & Remote Review

(More customer reviews)This is the fourth Minka Aire fan that I've purchased. The first two were Concept II hugger fans (wet versions) for our patio. After some initial technical confusion with using them with the remote controls I marveled at the quiet high performance of them. When it came time to put a new fan into our bedroom we were initially concerned with getting a beautiful looking fan and ordered a Casablanca fan from Amazon (that product/review can be found here Casablanca 38DHG45T Bel Air Ceiling Fan, Brushed Nickel . The Casablanca was a huge disappointment as the 1st one shipped with missing and broken parts and then the 2nd one, which took hours to install, didn't work.
At this point we ordered the Minka F517-ORB as it seemed to be sufficient for our needs and was still a modern, attractive looking fan for a bedroom. We also had extra controls for Minkas which saved us a bit more money.
The fan showed up and was very straight forward to install. It is worth noting that the remote receiver for this fan is not contained in the motor housing but has to be wired between the fan outlet box and the fan leads. This does take a bit of extra effort as you have to wire the receiver up and then squeeze all the wires above the fan hanger bracket and then slide the receiver into the bracket opening. It's really not that difficult if you are even slightly handy but a novice would probably be a bit overwhelmed by it as the instructions and description of doing this are not quite up to snuff. For those that like this fan but don't want to deal with it you can probably install it with a regular wall switch and just hardwire the fan to the circuit electricity. The fan can be hung in the bracket while wiring it which means you don't need one person trying to hold the fan (and yelling at you to hurry up) while you wire it together.
One thing about the install of this fan that is wonderful is how the blades install. Instead of balancing on a ladder and putting dozens of screws onto the fan blades (or putting the blades on while it's on the floor and then climb a 12 foot ladder and try to avoid getting hit in the head with the blades) the blades simply snap in. It is worth noting that they are just basic plastic and some people won't like the plastic look.
Once installed you do have to apply power to the fan and then hold the 'stop' button on the remote down for 30 seconds to get the fan to program. I had a spare WC212 wall remote for the fan so we would have both a wall control and a wireless on a night stand (which is a great option by the way!). All you have to do is set both of them to the same control frequency and both will control the fan with no problem. There are 256 combinations so even if you want a bunch of Minka fans there should be sufficient frequencies available to avoid any interference.
So, how does the fan look and perform? It is great! This fan puts out over 6000 cubic feet per minute on the highest speed, which is quite a lot. It doesn't wobble even a bit that I can tell and it is pretty quiet for the amount of air it is moving. It also uses only 59 watts of power when doing it which means it is highly energy efficient especially if you leave a fan running all night or all day. The light could be a bit stronger but not really an issue if you have other lights in the room such as on your night stands, etc. I would not count on the light being enough in a large room. I hear good things about the Emerson Eco fans and they have more light output so that might be an option if you want high energy efficiency but need extra light.
Cosmetically the fan is good looking. I think it would look better if it had textured blades that looked more like 'oiled bronze' but how much time do you really spend examining the blades of your ceiling fan? If you want a more fancy looking fan Minka does make them but this one looks pretty stylish and modern and is reasonably priced for the level of performance.
Having installed many different brands of fans over the years I am really quite impressed with these, they are a good value and I expect to get decades of service out of them. I am probably going to be buying this brand from here on out unless they flat out sell me a piece of junk in the future or don't have one for a particular application of mine.

still running the fan basically day and night, reversing the direction in the winter to blow upward - and using the light function for at least a couple of hours/day - and it is working smoothly and consistently, with no shakiness or loss of strength. the wood panels haven't faded, the brass hasn't tarnished, and i am hardly as consistent about keeping it clean as i am about keeping it on! one of the best home purchases i've made.

(More customer reviews)The best feature about this fan is its looks. It is minimalistic with a clean, stylish, sleek, and modern design. It also has a relatively small footprint. The 100W mini bulb produces adequate light for my 12" by 12" size bedroom. Unlike other fans that require the blades to be screwed on the base unit containing the motor, this fan allows for the blades to just slide into the base unit and lock into place - a great feature that cuts assembly time. I was however slightly disappointed that the color of the blades (with a slightly grayish touch) was not identical to that of the base unit (brown/oiled rubbed bronze). This is not a defect but rather the actual color shade scheme of this particular fan. Even on its highest setting, the amount of airflow (air displaced) is not that impressive and hence I strongly recommend that one go with the 52" inch version of this fan that costs only slightly more than the cost of this 44" model. This fan comes with a 3.5" & 6" down-rod but for my 9" ceiling, I would have preferred if the fan also came with an additional 9" or 12" down-rod. The remote is stylish and works flawlessly but I wish there was more space to snug in the remote-receiver in the fan (it is quite a hassle to try to squeeze the remote-receiver in the tight space). The fan has a slight premium in its price to essentially reflect the quality, good looks, and the fact that you get a fan with an integrated lighting in one unit.......with the convenience of the fan and the light being independently controlled by a remote. Bottom-line: If you like the looks of this fan go with the slightly larger 52" version of it as it provides more airflow at only a minimal extra cost.
