(More customer reviews)I received this lamp from Amazon.com with scuff marks on the canopy. They appear to be a manufacturing defect - Made in China. See the pictures I added for the product from the main product page. While they are not major enough for me to warrant a return, buyer beware. I got a really good deal on this lamp and it's not worth me returning it.
I'd also mention that the glass for the lamp is 12" in diameter, much larger than I expected. The description mentioned the size of the canopy and I thought that was referring to the entire lamp. In fact, the "canopy" figure relates to the metal portion only. It's a very attractive lamp and the glass mostly covers any defects in the metal finish.
Update Sep. 5 2010:
Less than two months in operation, I decided to change the bulb to another CFL. I screwed in the bulb to feel it click ever so slightly. The inner metal socket holding the lamp in the lampholder broke off and the unit will no longer hold the bulb. Closer inspection shows very shotty craftsmanship. I am going to replace the lampholder myself, because I like the shape of this lamp a lot, but please be warned of the questionable quality. I would not buy again!
Update Oct. 25 2010:
I ordered a Leviton replacement lampholder, installed it and now the lamp works again! I still wouldn't buy this product again. Boo on World Imports!

But with a fixture like this, I can use CFLs of different wattages, or I can choose to light one or both bulbs, depending on my needs. (More customer reviews)I used this kit to hardwire an IKEA Knappa lampshade. Normally this lamp only comes as a plug in lamp. The kit fit the mounting bracket perfectly.
I was glad to find that both the canopy assembly and the fixture are grounded properly, and the kit is UL certified.
Installation is simple and gives a very secure fitting to the ceiling. My install was to a vaulted ceiling and the end result looks great. Everything is snug and solid.

Unfortunately, the reviews stating the lamp came damaged proved to be true again- the box was really beat up, and the lamp body has several deep scratches that take the dark bronze finish off and leave the super shiny bronze showing (I'm tempted to scratch my own pattern into the rest of the body if I can't stop noticing it!) The directions are ridiculously generic, and I got extra parts that don't even serve a function for my lamp (Where do you put a swivel on a lamp that doesn't swivel?) Also, while the base is nice and heavy, the actual body is held up by cramming a long pole through one hole in the base and securing it with a wingnut- stability, not so much... For the price I thought I was going to get a decent lamp I could use for a long time, instead I'd say drop $50 at Target and save the self loathing!!

(More customer reviews)This is a little ball (maybe 4" or so in diameter) with one side open and a ceramic socket for a medium based bulb in the opening. There is a "baffle" (stair step looking thing) around the opening like you would see on most can lights, the purpose of which I believe is to reduce glare. The ball is separate from the base, connected only with the power cord that runs from the ball through the base.
The base is a bent sheet of light gauge metal (steel I assume) with a hole cut in it. The hole has a rubber insert to separate the metal of the base from the metal of the ball.
Aiming the light is achieved by turning the ball however you want, freely, in the hole. The only limitation is the cord between ball and base. I'm pretty sure any combination is achievable so it should work for any spot you need to shine on any other spot.
It's all feels very solid and well constructed. Looks very nice and wouldn't seem out of place in most settings.
If you look at the brushed stainless one there the picture shows it with a bulb. A medium based incandescent light bulb sticks out so that end of the bulb is about flush with the edge of the opening in the ball. If using a medium based ccfl the tip of that sticks out beyond the ball. This results in a very wide "spot light" that is pretty much 180 degrees.
For my purposes it is way too wide of a light pattern and not what I was expecting at all. Other than the fact that it's not a "spot" in my terms, it's a pretty cool little light. I'm planning on keeping it and trying to work it in somewhere because it's pretty slick.
